About West Wales

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park

The area is steeped in history and the many castles plus Iron Age Fort are evidence of this. If you’re looking for adventure, why not visit some of the popular attractions including a choice of themed parks suitable for children and adults of all ages. Watch the sea and birds, take a guided tour, walk, cycle or horse ride, taste the local produce including wine, cheese and chocolate, try out surfing, wind-surfing or rock-climbing. There really is something for everyone!

:: Pembrokeshire

It's easy to understand why Pembrokeshire is such a firm family favourite. First, there's the coast. The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park has some of the best beaches in Europe - everything from big bays to tiny coves.

It's also wonderful for coastal walks and the flowers, seabirds and seals you'll see on the way. But that's not all. Children love the choice of attractions on offer here - everything from mighty Oakwood, Wales's answer to an American theme park, Silent World Aquarium and Reptile Collection to the enchanting Folly Farm near Kilgetty.

:: Carmarthenshire

Carmarthenshire, home of Wales's new National Botanic Garden, doesn't just appeal to those with green fingers. The children won't stop talking about the secret passageway carved into the cliff at spectacular Carreg Cennen Castle - or the flamingos at Llanelli's Wildlife and Wetland Centre.

Along sandy Carmarthen Bay you can all enjoy a cycle ride beside the sea at the splendid Millennium Coastal Park. And the Pembrey Country Park has trains, toboggans and dry skiing - not to mention the biggest beach in Wales.

:: Ceredigion

If you're lucky, you may catch sight of a dolphin in the clear waters of Cardigan Bay. If not, visit Aberaeron's Sea Aquarium for an insight into the area's rich marine life. You're spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches, for this coast has some of the finest in Wales - and they are amazingly quiet and unspoilt.

But you'll also want to visit Ceredigion's green countryside. Treat the family to a trip on the Vale of Rheidol narrow-gauge railway that climbs to the spectacular mountain resort of Devil's Bridge.
